Strength Advantage of Lead Free Solder Compared to Conventional Leaded Solder
When compared to conventional leaded solder the new lead free solders are significantly stronger than their traditional high lead solder counterparts. We believe this is an advantage to longevity of glass panels.
Solder is the glue that supports the weight of the glass in Tiffany construction panels. Increased strength and melting point should slow the gradual deformation process caused by gravity that can lead to panel distortion and cracking over time.
| Lead Free Solder "Pewter Finish" | Regular Leaded Solder " 60/40 Type" |
| Ultimate Tensile Strength in PSI | 8000 | 6600 |
| Melting Point in degrees Fahrenheit | 418 - 440 | 361 - 376 |
